Discover versatile Drenthe

The Drents-Friese Wold National Park

Located on the border of the provinces of Drenthe and Friesland, this unique area is one of the largest nature reserves in the Netherlands! In 2000, this area of over 6,000 acres of forest, fallow land, quicksand, and valley grassland was designated a national park. The Drents-Friese Wold is one of Europe's most beautiful and important nature reserves and is therefore designated as a Natura 2000 area.

Enjoying Drenthe

Nowhere else can you enjoy the peace and quiet like in Drenthe! The Drentse Weelde is located 20 km below Assen, near the Frisian border in the town of Hoogersmilde. Nature here is magnificent, and you can experience all kinds of things in this incredible environment! The resort has its own swimming pond and borders the beautiful National Park Drents-Friese Wold. And did you know that Drenthe is the cycling province of the Netherlands? In addition to the many bike trails, you can hike and horseback ride endlessly. There are also miles of sporty mountain bike trails.

Many fun activities

There is also plenty to do for children! Several amusement parks are nearby, and many fun children's activities are available during your vacation. Don't forget to visit the Kingdom of the Gnomes in Exloo, the Treetops in Drouwen, Joytime in Grolloo, and Wildlands Adventure Zoo in Emmen. At the latter, you can take a world expedition in one day, discover new worlds, come face to face with wild animals, and race in the new attraction Tweestryd!

Travel back in time with a visit to the megalithic tombs

Are you thinking about Drenthe? Then you are thinking of the megalithic tombs! And that's not surprising since there are a whopping 52 of them! These barrows are beautiful burial chambers that were built about 5,000 years ago. At Hunebedcentrum Borger, you can discover early history: the time of the hunter-gatherers and admire the largest barrow in the Netherlands!
